BAIRNSDALE SPEEDWAY RAINED OFF BEFORE FINALS, WINNERS DECLARED ON QUALIFYING

Bairnsdale Speedway Association tried in vain to get the whole race meeting for Saturday night January 13th with the rain being persistent and shutting down the show, however not before the qualifying races had been done and winners for classes could be determined based on points.

The hard-working committee were hit more than once by rain and after working hard to recover the clay racing surface, the last dash of rain just after 9pm was enough for the team to make the hard call to end the night.

Junior Standard Saloon competition for the latest round of the ‘Skids Driver Training’ Bairnsdale Next Generation track series. With visiting drivers getting some laps in before the state title for the class is held soon at Bairnsdale, the competition was fierce with River Paterson one of those visiting competitors on top of the points. He was able to claim the nights win over Tom Braz, Dylcan Sweet, Kaine Smith and Noah Collette another driver from out of town. Four drivers won one of each of the four qualifying races, Collette, Paterson, Sweet and Braz.

Ladies Standard Saloon competition finished with Bree Walker locking in another victory in the class at Bairnsdale, the third for the season so far. On the way she won two of the three heat races with Simon Taylor the other. Walker was able to out qualify Michelle George from Leongatha who claimed second in front of Taylor from Sarsfield, Kate Stuchbery, and Joanne Richardson all local club members.

Division Two Hot Rod racers had another steer as they ready themselves for their state title also. Jordan Haley won two of the three heat races with Fraser Crittenden from Lakes Entrance the other. Victorian champion Haley came out on top in his first sight of Bairnsdale Speedway this season. Fraser Crittenden claimed second in front of Troy Wilson, Ben Crittenden, and Robert Tatterson rounding out the top five.

Mitch Foster from Morwell and also a Bairnsdale member claimed the points victory in Standard Saloons action with Jack Braz finishing second. Josh Thomas, Gus Argoon and Beau Stuchbery were the top five in the class with Braz and Stuchbery continuing to impress in their rookie senior season. Six heat races made up the qualifying for the Standard Saloons with Braz, Jamie Curtis, Braz a second time, Foster, Thomas and Foster a second time the winners of those events.

Rounding out all the action Darren Adam’s won the Limited Sportsman in front of Matthew Hurley, Mark Both and Chris Woeltjes all club members.
