MILLER AND FOWLER WIN MAJOR EVENTS AT NYORA RACEWAY’S LATEST SHOW

Pakenham based racer Damien Miller has won the first of two major Sports Sedan feature events this season at Nyora Raceway winning Saturday nights feature race with some big cash on offer to the winner whilst the visiting Grand Prix Midgets scorched around the track in their Master’s Series with Geelong driver Chris Fowler picking up victory.

Other winners on the night included Kacey Ingram from Warragul in Standard Saloons, Ally Moore in Lightning Sprints, Tristan Jarred a local Nyora resident in Top Star Juniors, and Jaylen Knight in New Star Juniors.

In Sports Sedan action Simon Bent from Grantville started the nights racing with a victory in the first of the heat races with Scott Angus winning a couple of qualifiers before Damien Miller won the last with a new ten lap record at Nyora Raceway for the class.

A twenty-lap feature event seen the top three in the field spread out with Miller holding a four second buffer in front of Marcus Reddecliffe and then a further four second buffer back to Simon Bent in third. One of the race favourites Scott Angus was unable to finish the race whilst the leaders put a lap on some of the field. Miller claimed victory from Reddecliffe, Simon Bent, Cameron Dike and Shona Bent, Simon’s daughter.

Competition in the Grand Prix Midgets began with Chris Fowler setting the benchmark as far as speed is concerned when he stamped the fastest heat race of the class for the night into the record books in heat one in a five second victory. Peter Robotham was victorious in the second qualifier with Fowler a non-finisher before he again won the third.

In the feature event over twenty laps two of the race favourites would come a cropper and find themselves infield in Robotham and Terry Brown. This left Fowler out front storming away with victory by a seven second margin in front of Travis Florrimell, Paul Perry, Shaun Ward, and Johnny Rouse.

Kacey Ingram set about lodging a new fifteen lap record for the Standard Saloon class as he held out Andrew Miles who was on his tail. Owen Cecil from Poowong had a tight battle with Chris Miles whilst Justin Prins returned to the track and sat in fifth for much of the race. Ingram claimed the win as the chequered flag dropped with Andrew Miles, Cecil, Chris Miles, and Prins the top five.

Lightning Sprints returned to action with Heathcote racer Ally Moore continuing to shine behind the wheel. Moore finished ahead of New South Wales visitor Aaron Bell by less than a second in the first heat race, whilst the results were reversed in the second with Bell setting a new ten lap record for the class. Jason Lynn was victorious in the third heat race with Moore hot on his tail. In the feature event Moore and Bell went at it again and the standout drivers gapped everybody else in the feature event. Moore taking the honours from Bell with Lynn in third place and Liz Peach the only other finisher in fourth.

Junior Sedan racers competed together in the Speedway Sedans Victoria class. Top Star racer Tristan Jarred who lives in the middle of the Nyora township set a new ten lap record whilst competing in the qualifying heat races with Jaylen Knight and Luke Morrison his closest challengers. In the feature race event, the three drivers hit the front of the field and set about putting some distance between themselves and the rest of the entrants with the top five remaining on the lead lap. Jarred went on to claim victory overall to give himself some confidence behind the wheel in his development as a race, whilst Jaylen Knight in second place was the top New Star categorised racer and she finished in front of Luke Morrison, Blake Beach, Dayne Murdoch and Maddison Beach for the top five in that categorisation.

Nyora returns to competition again this next Saturday January the 20th with the Monster Trucks in town, along with a Jet powered Van and it’s big flaming engine, a Demolition Derby, plus Fireworks and Laser show. Racing on the program will include Dirt Modifieds, Standard Saloons and Unlimited Sedans. Racing is from 4:30pm and the Monster Truck portion of the program begins from 6pm.

Nyora would like to thank their supporters all very much.
