SYDNEY SPEEDWAY CLOSED FOR SEASON ???????

The Sydney Sprintcar and Speedway season has been thrown into turmoil once again with the latest breaking news confirmed in a post by the Sprintcar Association of NSW that “Unfortunately the season, which was due to begin on September 23 at Eastern Creek Speedway (ESC) has been cancelled.

Irreconcilable issues between the NSW Government and the promoters has allegedly been the catalyst for this action.

Rumours have been swirling behind the scenes for the past week or so that this action was imminent and it appears now that it has come to fruition with the promotional team allegedly being denied the rights to continue into the coming season or at the very least being unable to agree terms and being told to vacate the premises immediately.

Whether a new promoter/body/association can be found, approved and appointed in time to save the season remains to be seen without even considering whether any person or association would possibly even be suitably placed with the personnel and equipment needed at such short notice.

Further to the dilemma is the fact the NSW Sprintcar club had no country series or non-ESC events last season due to a number of factors and whether any of those tracks is even willing to negotiate with the club, let alone host a race meeting is yet to be determined.

At worst, Sydney will suffer through yet another season with no metropolitan speedway racing despite the Government committing huge money to build the landmark venue after the forced demise of Parramatta speedway.

Stay tuned, more to come – no doubt.
